Critical information for a safe living environment
Resident safety is our highest priority throughout the remediation works. This page explains the emergency arrangements that will apply during construction, including the distinction between the residents’ building fire alarm and the construction-site fire alarm.
It also provides guidance on scaffold safety, keeping balconies and escape routes clear, and contacting the appropriate team in an emergency.
Emergency procedures for residents
The building’s existing evacuation procedures and designated assembly points currently remain unchanged.
If you hear your building’s fire alarm:
- follow the established emergency procedure for your building;
- leave by the designated escape route if instructed to evacuate;
- proceed to the designated assembly point;
- do not use lifts; and
- do not re-enter the building until authorised.
Construction-site evacuation procedure
On hearing the construction-site fire alarm, all workers and visitors must:
- stop work immediately;
- isolate equipment only where this can be done safely and without delaying escape;
- leave by the nearest safe and signed escape route;
- not use goods hoists or any unauthorised lifting equipment;
- proceed directly to the designated construction assembly point;
- remain available for roll call and further instructions; and
- not re-enter the site until authorised.
The Site Manager will check all workers and visitors against the site attendance register and report the outcome to the lead Fire Marshal.
Any missing person and their last known location will be reported immediately to the Fire and Rescue Service. Fire Marshals and other site personnel must not re-enter or search an unsafe area.

Scaffold and balcony safety for residents
For your safety throughout the works:
- do not access or climb the scaffold;
- do not allow children, visitors or pets onto the scaffold;
- keep windows and doors closed when requested during nearby work;
- do not remove, alter or interfere with scaffold ties, sheeting, alarms or protective measures;
- do not access and please keep balconies clear when instructed so that work can be completed safely;
- do not place items where they could fall onto workers or people below; and
- report unauthorised scaffold access or suspicious activity immediately.
Residents will be notified before access to an individual balcony is required.
Fire drills and safety information
A construction-site evacuation drill will be undertaken shortly after mobilisation into each phase. Drills will be repeated at appropriate intervals and following significant changes to the site layout or emergency arrangements.
Each drill will be recorded and reviewed, with any necessary corrective actions tracked through to completion.
The current Site Fire Safety and Evacuation Plan will be displayed on the workforce safety noticeboard. Information relevant to residents will be issued through the Resident Liaison Portal and the other communication methods agreed with the Building Manager.
